Glasgow was an American novelist who portrayed the changing world of the contemporary south during her time. Written in the early 1900s, this book gives readers an insight into the very conservative and religious south in a pre-civil rights movement America. The Miller of Old Church is nevertheless a very interesting book if you can get beyond the attitudes toward class, race, and gender that typified this period.
