Common Cause

Set during the First World War, it tells the story of Jeremy Robson, a determined newspaper editor in the fictional town of Fenchester. Robson's hard-hitting reporting has made him a target of special interests who aim to shut him down by withholding advertising funds. However, when war was declared in 1917, Robson and local business leaders set aside their differences to focus on a new target: the German-American community, whom they accused of being disloyal to the United States.
