What is interval fasting?

Interval fasting is becoming increasingly popular, especially among health-conscious and figure-conscious people. But what is this form of fasting, to which another book is dedicated with this guide, actually about? Before we go into the details and explain the positive effects of interval fasting, we should first explain the principles of this method.

Interval fasting is also called intermittent or part-time fasting and does not represent a fasting cure in the conventional sense. There are different phases in interval fasting. One in which we eat normally (see our recipes), and in the other phase we completely renounce food.

This type of interval fasting makes it possible to detoxify and purify the body on the one hand and to purify the pounds on the other hand without feeling cravings.

Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen proves a perfect example of the fact that one can lose weight quickly and healthily with interval fasting. He managed to lose 10 kilograms of weight in just 3 months using the 16/8 method.

The 16/8 method means that there should be 16 hours between the last meal and breakfast. During this time, the body works at full speed and thus successfully reduces fat. More about that later.

The theoretical and historical background of interval fasting

Such interval fasting was by no means unusual in the history of mankind for a long time. Until the agricultural revolution man lived as a hunter and gatherer - periods in which he had to get by without food occurred again and again. So it was normal for people at that time to live without food for long periods of time. At the same time it was normal for him to find a comparatively large supply of food in other periods - for example after killing a large prey. These phases of food shortages and large food supplies alternated regularly.

In the course of the agricultural revolution, the food supply became more stable. In the further course of events - mainly due to the industrial revolution - at least in the western world there was a permanent oversupply of food, which is predominant today. Today's man is therefore not accustomed to longer phases without food. For him, the continuous and more than sufficient supply of food, which has only been available for a very short time in the history of mankind, is normal.

The followers of interval fasting therefore want to achieve a more natural diet with their method and hope that this will have numerous positive effects on human health.

Furthermore it should be pointed out that fasting is also practiced in most religions. Here, too, the practitioners expect positive effects - albeit not on a physical level.

It can therefore be said that fasting is by no means an unusual situation for human beings. In today's consumer society, which lives with a constant abundance of food, it may seem strange at first - but it is actually a food situation for humans that is anything but alien.
