Egmont

"Egmont'' by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a play that takes much inspiration from Shakespeare's tragedies. Following a Dutch warrior as he fights invasion and is later imprisoned. Part play and part manifesto, the play is an inspiration for those to whom liberty is right. Matters of free will versus fate are also brought into question, making this not only an entertaining read, but a multi-faceted one.
