Los Gringos

Here are descriptions of Mexico, California, voyages to the Pacific Coast, and descriptions of Peru and Chile written in 1849 by a lieutenant of the US Navy. For modern readers it is not just a travelogue, but also a history of places as they were almost two centuries ago. 'Los Gringos' is the somewhat derogatory name by which white men were known to the natives of these Spanish-speaking lands. It provides an interesting and exciting peep into those times long ago.
