The Second Generation

'The Second Generation' is a novel written by David Graham Phillips. The story is set in a factory where the workers are busy preparing for lunch. However, when the owner, Hiram Ranger, appears, they all start working harder. He is a fair and just man who is respected by the workers. One day, a young man who is dressed differently from the other workers appears and introduces himself as Hiram's son. He is nervous and seems out of place. Hiram is surprised to see him and asks what he is doing there. The son tells Hiram that he has come to work in the factory. Hiram is skeptical at first, but he agrees to give his son a chance.
