These pamphlets concern, on the first hand Sir William Temple (1628 – 1699), and Simon Du Cros who was active in the seventeenth century. They are connected by the Dutch War of 1672 – 1678. Temple was instrumental in arranging the marriage between William of Orange and Princess Mary of England in 1677. The first letter is from Du Cros and the second Temple's answer to it.
