A Daughter of Fife

In this novel set in a remote Fife fishing village, Allan Campbell, a young aristocrat, falls in love with Maggie Promoter, a fisher-girl who has just lost her father and brothers to the sea. However, Allan's father is against their relationship and sends him out of the country for two years. In the meantime, Maggie forms an alliance with Allan's cousin, Mary Campbell, who is the approved intended bride for Allan. The novel explores themes of love, class, and societal expectations as Maggie and Allan try to find a way to be together despite the odds against them.
