Preface

In my first book „Therapy: Modern Card Manipulation“, I have released a technique I used to call #TheDeckening. I explain that you can shoot a previously selected card sideways out of the deck with this method.

At that moment I was not aware of the full potential of this technique and I wrote everything down on two pages with three illustrations. The technique has not changed but I have found out some new little subtleties over the time, which are worth to mention.

Also the fact that you can shoot out more than five cards at the same time is a huge game changer in my eyes.

On the next pages, I explain the technique down to the last detail I know. By the way I am a lefty and I explain everything from my point of view.

This production should not replace your favorite card shot/production. But I hope this method will find a way into one of your routines with your own ideas.

The Method

Hold the deck in your right hand in a deep dealer’s grip. Middle, ring and the little finger on the long left side. Index finger on top of the short side. The thumb is loosely on top of the deck. Push the deck just a little bit further down into your palm with your index finger. You see why in a second.

Your pinky holds a big break under the top two cards (Fig. 1).

Squeeze with the tip of your ring finger against the top two cards towards your thumb. Move your thumb over the deck to the long left side (Fig. 2).

Your thumb does not touch the cards on top at that moment.

Continue the squeeze and move your ring finger down towards the deck. The ring finger releases from the cards and the tension, builded through the squeeze, dissolves. The two cards will snap off your finger. You do not want the cards to jump uncontrolled from the deck. Press the top card down onto the deck with your thumb to avoid that - immediately after the cards snap off. On this way, only the second card shoots out of the deck (Fig. 3).
